Tony and his guys always do amazing work. I wear my shoes into the ground, and he goes above and beyond to take care of them. This was my third or fourth time in the shop, and he did not disappoint! New leather soles, new rubber sole protectors, new heals, rebuilt toe caps, rebuilt suede heal cups - the works! He’s also so friendly every time. Thanks Tony!

I've been getting shoes fixed at cobblers for years, and these guys do a really nice job. I've had shoes and a handbag fixed and both look better than when I bought them.

    Outstanding craftmanship and affordable prices!

Dropped my shoes off before the COVID shutdown, didn't know if I was ever going to receive them back when the shutdowns started.

Got a nice call from the owner letting me know they were safely re-opening and to come by for easy pickup. Did a great job resoling my boots & big thanks for letting me know they were ready as soon as it was safe to open back up!

I've used Sunset Shoe Repair three time now and the workmanship has been fantastic and the pricing is very reasonable, I will continue to use them for all future shoe repair needs.

Tony the owner is a very nice and fair guy who knows his stuff and has always made me feel good after stopping by his shop

Parking is a hassle, so brace yourself. Once the nightmare is over and you find yourself in the shop you are greeted by the sight of a well-used work area. An area made for leather working and shoe making. Smells of leather, oils and polishes mix harmoniously. The two gentlemen that helped me were quick to see to my needs albeit with broken English and heavy accents, however that proved no burden as they were very capable. Friendly and quick (week turnaround) I'm very satisfied with the work.

  • *****

They did a great job at a good price. Brought in some shoes I thought were beyond help and made them brand new. Good service, nice guys.

I give this place 5 stars replace the zipper on my motorcycle jacket couple of years ago and it still works perfect...

    I would go back again

  • *****

Definitely recommend this shoe repair place! Very friendly, professional and helpful! I went in needing help with my dance boot soles that I wear for competitions and Tony was able to diagnose and fix the issue within minutes. I'll definitely return if I have any other shoe repair needs!

  • *****

Dude. This guy fixed my leather jacket like a champ. I kinda can't wait for a pair of shoes to need new soles. I know where to go.

  • *****

I loves that this place has survived the douche-ification of San Francisco. Half the time there isn't even someone in the front of the shop, like there's been some kind of serial slaughter event just before you walked in. On the other hand they've kept my Docs strong soled and looking close to new for 5 years. This part of the city will totally suck when places like this get pushed out by gyms featuring skinny guys doing squats in the window.

Tony at Sunset Shoe Repair did a great job of refurbishing my favorite red ballroom dance shoes. I used them to go dancing last evening, and the shoes were a huge success. Best place for repair of ballroom dance shoes in San Francisco.

  • *****

Sunset Shoe Repair does incredible work and are very nice and helpful. I took in a pair of much-loved boots that I've worn to death and was on the brink of tossing. They replaced the sole, and fully restored the heel which had worn down to the nub on the sides and bottom. The leather went from dull and scuffed to shiny and supple. I'm beyond impressed and will return!

This place is great! I came in to see if someone could repair my backpack that had a strap that was completely cut off, I brought in the extra material and he fixed it in 10 mins! The guy that helped me also saw that the zipper was broken and fixed that and put a stopper at the end. The backpack looks like new. Super fast and done at a great price- highly recommend!

  • *****

These guys are great: super fast, super friendly, such good service! So happy to have them right in the neighborhood!

I brought my boots here 11/1/17 because one of my zippers was split and stuck. The merchant suggested I put in new zippers for $90. I thought wow that's steep but these are my favorite boots so I thought ok. I came back in a rush and picked them up without examining them. I went to wear them this morning and the split and stuck zipper on the one boot while no longer stuck was still splitting when you zip it up. I'm going in to talk to the merchant.

    *** After talking with Tony

Tony was very apologetic that the boot was not zipping. He fixed it on the spot. He said that his employee did the work and did not replace the slide or test his work. He gave me this card that let me get heels replaced for free next time I come in. Smart businessman to find compensation that still brings me back to his store after a bad first impression. So I'd say Tony's a good guy. His employees may not always do the best work so check your shoes out to be sure you're happy with the work you paid to have done. Also, if my experience is any indication the work you expected to be done may not be done at the time promised.

  • *****

I had a pair of dress shoes and a pair of boots resoled. The employees are friendly and they did very fine work in a week. Note that they ask for payment up front. Support a local business.

  • *****

This is the only place I will take my shoes to.

First off the owner is very friendly and informative. He saved my white lambskin Chanel espadrilles. I tried to clean it myself which was a bad idea and made 2 huge stains on each shoe. He was able to get the stains off and it looked like as if it was brand new. It's lambskin so I was quite worried that the stains wouldn't come off. In the end it exceeded my expectations

His prices are very fair and overall I'm just happy I found a place that I can trust for my shoes.

  • *****

Had the elastic on my leather sandals repaired there and one side resewn that had come undone. Went to pick it up but they had forgetten to resew the loose end. But the owner (I think it was) said he would have it done in 20 minutes, which he did. He also polished the shoes. So all in all it's fine. Looks like good work.

  • *****

Amazing quality and customer service. A leather strap to my favorite purse broke and Sunset Shoe Repair was able to fix without a problem and now my bag is better than new! I will absolutely visit this shop the next time I need a repair.

  • *****

I mailed my shoe from Sacramento to sunset shoe repair last week, they did fantastic job and mailed it back on time they said I highly recommend this place, thank you guys.

  • *****

This place is kind of expensive, but I'm obsessed with them because I'm obsessed with my shoes. They re-did that annoying tippy part of all my skinny heeled shoes, and the replacements ($8) were way better than the originals.

  • *****

I've been bringing my shoes here for more than 10 years, and they always do a great job. They were able to completely resole my work boots, and it was like having a brand new pair! Consistent great service!

  • *****

This place is awesome. I only take my shoes here, and I've been going for about 8 years. They are HEEL masters. Once, I strayed and made the mistake of trying another place. It was a horrible disaster! Please refer to my other reviews of a place NOT to go. But I brought it back to these guys and they fixed it up and the shoes were like new. Great place, reliable and friendly service.

  • *****

I took an awesome vintage laminated messenger back that my friend's mom gave me to these guys. The flaps on the front that go through the buckles to close the bag were cracked and about one or two closings from falling off completely. I love this shoe repair shop and have had numerous shoes and boots fixed there so I decided to stop by mid route to the gym. They said they could fix it, so I emptied said bag into a plastic bag that they provided for me and went on my to the gym with all of my worldly belongings in a pink plastic bag. It was awesome. I was pretty much one shopping cart away from hobo status. Anyways, I just picked my bag up and it looks FANTASTIC. I said that I didn't really care too much what the final result was as long as I could open and close the bag. He went above and beyond! He took apart the flaps and glued them to a solid piece of leather and then stitched the whole thing, so it looks like it did when it was new but is now even better! I think I scared the guy I was so excited with the end result! Sunset Shoe Repair is the best!

  • *****

This is my first time getting shoes repaired. I don't have a whole lot of dressy shoes, so the ones I brought in were pretty worn: my cute black peep toe heels. I came in on a Thursday evening, there were 3 guys working in the shop. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. I said, "Help! I need my shoes fixed for tomorrow, can you get it done by then?" Before I even showed him the shoes, he said it would not be a problem. I picked them up at noon the next day. It was ~$30 for the heels and soles repaired and cleaned. Expensive, but a job well done.

  • *****

I read the unfavorable reviews for this place since the new owner and I just wanted to chime in because I had a pretty satisfactory experience here. I have some boots that I am sentimental about and the sole was cracked and broken. For an affordable or at least competitive price they resoled the broken part of my boots. And I'm happy with the work done.

  • *****

As far as I'm concerned these are the only people that I will let touch my dress shoes. If I'm spending $300+ on a pair of shoes they are going to get the best treatment.

  • *****

Maybe it's my penchant for pointy, skinny-heeled shoes, but my shoes all wear down fast. I've taken lots of pairs here to get re-heeled, and have had no problems with the service. I also have a pair of bright pink suede shoes that got ruined after a overly-crazy night at Popscene, and Sunset Shoe Repair gave them back in even better condition than when I got them (they were used). The only negative was that it took a week longer than they said it would, but that's what I get for letting boys with dirty soles step all over me.

  • *****

These guys are a teeny-tiny outfit smooshed between a drycleaners and an athletic shoe store, so if you're not paying attention you could easily miss them on the street. I have to admit that I haven't yet gotten any shoes repaired here, but they did fix my favourite leather backpack for $7. Though they are not usually open on Mondays, the door was ajar when I walked by one day. They most graciously accepted my order. I'll certainly be back should I have any shoe-care needs.

  • *****

I'd go here again. They were able to replace the heel of my vintage leather shoes for less than 5 bucks. I dropped it off Wednesday.. they told me to come back Saturday, but I was able to pick it up Friday. The guy was totally helpful too. I like the old-school feel of this repair shop... hecka OG!

  • *****

I love tony!!! He is the most efficient shoe repair man i have ever been to. No lies. I have had this pair of boots out of commission for the past 8 months due to all the over-priced/ lack of good quality material shoe repair places i had tried to take them to. I stumbled upon Tonys place and he gave me the best tred, perfected the leather and even had them finished earlier than he had quoted! He is so great! I am soooo happy with my new soles :)!!!!

  • *****

I love this place. The guy is a sweetheart, who is very friendly and accomodating. He always does a great job fixing my shoes.

  • *****

This place is a godsend. I have had my Gentle Souls and Naturalista boots repaired for a fraction of the price quoted elsewhere. Quality workmanship and honest service and pricing. My boots look like new. I wish they also did jewelry and clothing repair.

  • *****

I've had 3 pairs of boots repaired, shampooed, and resoled! I've had these boots for years and now they are like brand new! Tony is great and the prices are affordable. I HIGHLY recommend this place. They are prompt and efficient yet still maintain a "real" attitude, no BS!

  • *****

Super friendly service. They have done an amazing job on many of my heels, for boots and high-heeled shoes. They also re-stitched the sole to the shoe on my boots, and they look like new! Excellent pricing, too!

  • *****

This place does GREAT show repairs and people know it, so if you are having new heels put on or more involved repairs done, be prepare to wait a week or two. It's worth it though.

  • *****

I discovered this place about 5 years ago and I have been a loyal customer ever since. The owner is very sweet and he does great work. It is basically a one man show so some patience is needed but when your shoes are ready you will definitely be pleased. The price is right as well! I would bring my shoes here even if I didn't live in the neighborhood!

  • *****

Sunset Shoe Repair fixed my favorite shoes (knee-high, vintage, leather slouch boots) when no one else would. "Buy a new pair," the other shops suggested, "this is going to be a really big job." When I told this to Tony, the new owner, he said it was because no one else knows HOW to fix boots. Indeed. He said my boots would be as good as new in a week. They replaced the soles, heels, patched up the leather in a few places, and waterproofed them for $48. The boots are lovely and I've gone back to wearing them everyday (and I'll probably be taking them back every year or two for maintenance).

  • *****

My shoes always come back looking better than new. He is a busy man so sometimes it takes awhile, but if you tell him that you need them sooner, he is usually accommodating. It is just a tiny shop. Perhaps a one-man show? So be patient and you will have a "brand new" pair of shoes on your feet when he is done.

  • *****

Although they could not help me in putting an additional 1/2" sole/lift under my son's shoe, the guy who answered the phone gave me a couple of names in the area to call. He told me that the service is usually expensive and would be very difficult for tennis shoes. That was very nice of him.

  • *****

OK so I never write reviews but this place is fantastic! I had a pair of my favorite boots that the sole had completely cracked all the way across on both shoes to the point that my sock peeked through...no joke and I kept wearing them. So on a fluke I stopped here and for $48 my shoes look like new! I am in heaven! Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you!

The man behind the counter who has a smile on his face .... he'll take care of you. Worried he'll loose your shoe? ... it's okay, he'll still be smiling behind that counter. Worried your shoes will take 7 days to get polished ... that's alright because he'll still be smiling for SEVEN STRAIGHT DAYS until their done.

Seriously, if you can tell me one time this guy ISN'T smiling, I'll give you my shoes.

Disclaimer: read in speedy end of commercial voice: 'shoes may come in way too damn small to wear form, may cause serious stomach problems including vomiting, nausea, glaucoma, IBS and tingling of the face neck chest and ass.

  • *****

Whatever, Mr. Hasty McRushington, if you don't feel like paying the price for quality shoe repair then that's totally up to you, especially if you "need this done lyyyykkeee right nooowww!!" and don't have the decency to wait. Anyway, the heels on my favorite shoes were well repaired and look great. Superior, friendly service. I'll be back every time my heels wear down. So there.

  • *****

Not the speediest, but the best service for the price. I have been looking for a place that will repair my vintage shoes WELL, without using cheap and shoddy materials and just glue, and this is the first one I find that does a good job without charging me a fortune.
The man behind the counter, as they say, is always smiling, and yes, sometimes he does have a hard time finding my shoes, but he always has come out victorious in the end. No horror stories here, but I am concerned now after reading other reviews of people whose shoes have been lost.
This area is not close to anywhere I live or work, but I take the trip to get my shoes fixed because it is worth it.

  • *****

This place is great! I took in two pairs of boots to get resoled and get new bottoms on the heels. Tony did a very nice job on both and for a very good price. He even shined both pairs for free, which I was very concerned about at first because one pair is kind of a funny (but pretty) purply-grey color that I didn't want changed or ruined. When I went to pick up my shoes (on the day I was told they would be ready :)) I found out that Tony had specially ordered the matching shoe polish from the manufacturer that made my boots! And gave me the rest of the shoe polish jar for free!

I would definitely recommend this place and will definitely come back again. Great customer service and quality of work!

  • *****

2 stars for the fact that this guy is ALWAYS smiling when I interact with him. He is super friendly and accommodating. He knows so much about shoes and will tell you all about the types of leathers, heels, etc. that he considers in repairing. And, he wants the customer's approval before he just goes and does his thing. I appreciate a service done with my consultation so I know what's happening.
The only thing that lost him 1 star is that sometimes he underestimates how long it takes to get things done. I've stopped by a few times to pick up my babies (read: shoes) on the designated day, and only half of them are done. Since my shoes are the center of my world, this always throws me off a bit. But, he's always so nice and apologetic and works super fast to get them done within the day. I think his rates are reasonable and I just love being greated with that smile.

  • *****

I can't believe I forgot to review this place after the first time I went here.
On that visit I had a pair of tap shoes with hard soles that were starting to split. They cemented them for me and buffed them up all new & shiny. Only cost $10.
On this week's visit, the same pair of tap shoes had insoles that were totally suffering some wear & tear (I freaking love these tap shoes and one of the gentlemen here pointed out how good quality they are). This time it cost $20.
Totally reasonable prices and they never hesitate to ask when I need my shoes back by (I've always gotten them back on the requested days...3 days wait time at the most).

These are definitely my shoes guys and I'll definitely keep coming here.
Just a note since they don't have it listed here, their current hours are actually Monday through Saturday, 9a-7p, and closed on Sundays.

  • *****

Thank you Sunset Shoe repair for renewing my favorite pair of shoes. I am so happy with the quality of work I got. Prices are very reasonable!

  • *****

Great service. Quick turnaround. Quality work. And their vintage-looking machine are cool to watch. Reasonable prices, too. Seriously, get your suits, shoes, etc HERE--I am shocked how much they totally rock.

  • *****

Can't make my rice without my ricecooker. Can't have beautiful shoes without my Glen! He is amazing! I've taken my shoes there about 10 times; each time I get them back, they are like new again. He keeps my boots looking fabulous.

Problem: The store closes at 6:30pm and I get off work at 6pm.
Glen's Solution: I call him and inform that I will be 10 mins late. He is happy to wait for me. I've done this twice. =)

Be cautious the repair might take a week; Glen is a busy man. So plan accordingly. Also, they are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

  • *****

Love these guys, always friendly and helpful! I recently bought a pair of boots online and was disappointed that they were too big on the calf. Before returning them, I brought them to Tony who did a fantastic job making them tighter without ruining the look of the boots. Great price too!

  • *****

The prices are unbelievably reasonable. They do outstanding work. And they've kept my shoes going and looking so nice. I'm really impressed by what they do. They've resoled several shoes for me and completely reconstructed one pair. And they did such an amazing job, it's now the most comfortable shoe I've ever had.

  • *****

Very relieved to have found a reliable shoe repair shop near me. Service was friendly and efficient-- resoled and heeled a pair of black leather flats in 2 days for $40. (if it's half or less of what I paid for a broken-in shoe that I wear every day then it's worth it.) Thanks Tony!

  • *****

I have been going to this shoe repair for about 2 years. Sometimes to fix a heel, get taps on my shoes since I wear them out easily or get additional holes punched into a strap as I did today (when you wear size 11 shoes clearly designers assume you have elephant ankles).

I walked out the 2nd time arguing with the owner (I believe he is) to let me pay for it. I'm not giving it a 5 star because I get free services, although that helps, it's because their customer service is like no other.

  • *****

This place is amazing! The guy is really fair and does great work. He has replaced the heels on my boots, patched holes, and even added straps to a pair of heels that were stretched. All my shoes were shined up nice when I picked them up too.

  • *****

let me tell you the saga of my favorite boots. They were bought 8 years ago in Sydney, Australia. Survived with me through thick and thin and traveled to various continents and many countries. Then they got real sick. I mean really sick. The soles were burnt, torn and melted from walking over coals, sand, rocks and rivers. The sole split in half on both shoes. I thought they were dead. But I couldn't let go. Its hard when its been through a lot with you. Also, I really couldnt find anything that came close to the quality of these Ozzy Colorado boots here.
So I got on a mission to save them. I took them to every shoe repair guy I could find in the city and was rejected when they said..its too late. "Get a new pair buddy and learn to let go."
Then I found Sunset Shoe Repair and I told him that he would be the ultimate shoe doctor in my eyes if he could repair them. He said "No Problem. No one else can do this work but I'll do it for you."
One week later..(and on my birthday too boot)..I came back to see the result. And there they were!! Looking like new! With a beautiful new black Vibram sole. He even repaired a little tear on the boots. I'm amazed. I literally wanted to hug this cobbler dude. They are they best. Hands down. An artist I tell you.

  • *****

I gotta' give it up for this guy. I brought in my Italian suede loafers that got messed up during a weekend in NYC. He was quick, affordable and those shoes came out looking better-than-new. I have a few other pairs of shoes that need sprucing up and they will be coming here for the work.

  • *****

Phenomenal neighborhood shoe repair place... tiny tiny storefront amongst the main area by 9th Ave. and Irving. I live in the neighborhood but this is the type of place that generates such loyalty, were I ever to move elsewhere in the city I would come back any time I needed some TLC for my shoes.

They are the epitome of a gracious, locally-owned business. There is usually a line because everyone loves them, but you don't mind waiting. In my time standing outside the little space, I've seen the man there help so many people, and often with very random requests. He never seems to fluster, and always does the best he can to have people walk away with the most useful information possible. He'll also be realistic when he doesn't have the most skill in an area necessary for your repair, and point you in the right direction. I recently had some rhinestones on sandals come loose and, because it was stitching, he told me I'd be better off going to a place that does alterations.

Every pair of shoes I've taken there has come back looking much better. I'd trust him with Jimmy Choos, if only I had them.

  • *****

I needed a two inch lift on a shoe, in a hurry as I was traveling through. My wishes were filled to a tee and I had the shoe in tw days. Best jb I have had anywhere in US.

  • *****

I love that big shoe hanging out front.
I need to add a photo of that to this site.

  • *****

So I needed to get a pair of shoes dyed for a super important event, my wedding! I had a specific color in mind so I brought in a pantone chip to match.

I was so impressed with the level of customer service I got. Tony was so pleasant to work with and asked that I come back in 2 days to inspect a few samples to choose from. He had 2 different shades to pick from but both were spot on! The entire process took less than a week... and they are perfectly beautiful! Not to mention it cost $28!

  • *****

Took about 3 days to repair the heels on a destroyed paid pair for $10. They look good as new. Took a week and a half to replace sole/heel of a pair of frye boots for $46.50, and they look as good as new as well.

I was tentative, considering some lost shoe complaints, but I had no problem, and my shoes look beautiful. Def recommend it.

  • *****

    Very prompt and responsible business.
Dealt with them once and left satisfied both in quality and price.
Went to the other places for estimates before gave these guys my shoes for repair. On average I received 2x - 3x times higher estimates from those places (Haight, West Portal).
My shoes were repaired as expected in a week, and returned to me when I had a chance to pick them up on Saturday precisely at 5:30pm! The guy had a line of people at the moment!
In this economy anyone would like to spend less and get nice service, right? You bet! These guys well deserved their 5 star rating on this occasion.

  • *****

My boots broke right before my bday and Sunset Shoe Repair had them fixed the next day for a great price! Good people, great work :)

  • *****

This guy saved my favorite leather gladiator sandals following a particularly nasty botch job that another shoe guy effected when he tried to replace the taps on the heels. The clumsy repair attempt left my shoes wobbly and unsafe and me very sad (I was sure the shoes were ruined!), so I "yelped" up another shoe repair store in my neighborhood and found this one. Two days later my sandals were back in action and better than new. He reinforced the soles and buffed 'em up to a high shine, too. I've taken several pairs of shoes to this place since, and have always been psyched with the quality of the repair and service. I walk all over the city in my high heels and beat them up pretty quick and pretty bad, but they're always all better after a brief visit to Sunset Shoe Repair.

  • *****

I love this place! I had some old boots that was getting torn apart, including one of the soles completely ripped off. I showed my boots to them and they showed me how exactly they were going to fix it and would also fix some other issues they found. Their pricing is extremely reasonable and their service is great. Would definitely recommend these guys!

  • *****

I love 1980s pumps, and every type of boot. In order to get my fix without going broke, I buy most of them secondhand. With the money I save, I have my shoes all spiffed up at the shoemaker and still come out ahead.

I just tried Sunset Shoe Repair and they were amazing. I got my shoes back looking brand new, beautiful, sparkling new. They replaced the rubber nubs on my high-heels and fixed the leather which gets torn off and scrunched up every time my heel slips into a grate. And they hand sewed the leather on some purse straps that had begun to split open. The crowning jewel, however, was the work they did on my suede boots. The heels were completely worn down, so much that the suede had a hole in it from dragging on the ground. They replaced the heels, repaired the tear and brushed them out to look smooth and new.

They were ready on time and price was wonderful too, all of this: 3 pairs of heels, 1 pair of boots and a purse repair done by hand for $66. I will go back again and again and again.

  • *****

Tony is amazing and he is an expert in shoe repair. He does a great work with affordable price. It's surprises me to see him getting only four stars. If there was a way to give him six stars I would do that. I brought to him high heel Dolce and Gabbana shoes which were very uncomfortable after wearing them couple times. They were also hard to wear them for long hours,so i thought i will never be able to wear them again, but Tony did an excellent work and balanced it for me. I also brought him sand color suede high heel Cavallini shoes which i broke its heel. He also did a great work on them making them even stronger than before. This place never disappointed me.

  • *****

Great place, speedy service, relatively cheap.
I dropped off a pair of boots to replace the heel and nose pads. Paid 30 bucks, shoes were done in 2 hours.
I would recommend this place, it is clean, the service is excellent. The fellow at the counter was very helpful and recommended how to care for the shoes, even though he did not have the correct product in stock.

  • *****

I had a gaping hole in the bottom of my favorite boots, and was at the point where they were in such bad shape I was embarrassed to even show them to anyone to try and get them fixed. If I hadn't paid such a hefty price for them, I would have just tossed them, but I'm glad I didn't!

I finally got up the courage and dropped by Sunset Shoe Repair with them. Tony couldn't have been nicer, even though I saw the look on his face saying "How the hell did you wait so long to get these fixed!?! Poor boots..." He quoted me $65 for heel and sole replacement, plus polish & shine. I'm sure I could have talked him down, but for how much I paid for them I thought it was reasonable if he could in fact save them and I didn't have to buy new ones. I am currently sporting the very same pair of boots, and they look pretty much new. And they were ready in 3 days! There are a few imperfections I can see, but wouldn't be noticeable to anyone else.

Overall, I would recommend getting your shoes fixed here. It's worth checking out, even if you think they aren't salvageable. My feet and my bank account are both very happy!

  • *****

An excellent shoe repair shop (if a tad bit more expensive than I'm used to paying on the East Coast). Came in for a heel repair on my pump. He quoted $6, but I sadly didn't have the cash...they don't take credit. I was about to leave and come back after I visited a bank, but he just took the shoe and told me to come back and pay later. My heel was fixed in about 5 minutes. Looks and wears great! And I brought the money in a day later (I'm honest!...and I want to come back to this place again).

I also brought my friend in because his sneaker had a split in it through the side rubber part. The shoe guy was uncertain that he could fix it (since it is rubber and the only real thing he could do was glue it). My friend loved his sneakers and $15 was a lot cheaper than it would cost for a brand new pair. So we left the sneakers in the shoe man's excellent hands. Long story short, my friend is VERY happy with the result (although knows that this may not be a permanent solution).

Generally a great shoe repair. Thanks!

Fast, friendly, great quality work and a fair price. I'll be back!

  • *****

I've been here 3 times and they have done a great job each time. $13 to get the heel tips on my high heels replaced so I don't make a clicking sound when I walk. They always shine my shoes too. Will keep using.

When I moved out to get my first job my dad gave me his pair of Allen Edmonds dress shoes. I had been wearing them daily to work, and often out at night, and they started to get pretty beat up. They had holes in the soles, scratches, and needed a really serious cleaning. I took them in to Sunset Shoe Repair and the guys fixed them right up. They seem to have put a lot of work into finding the right material (proper thickness of leather?) for these 1970's dress shoes, and they did a beautiful job of making them look at good as new. I am wearing them right now, and they feel so much better than they used to. I highly recommend this shoe repair.

  • *****

I recommend this place and like the guy that runs it. He fixed 2 pair of leather dress shoes, did a great job, the price was good and it took him only a few days.
All around, I thought this place was great.

  • *****

I've been coming here for a number of years, and very happy with the new ( relatively new?) ownership. They do quality work, in a timely manner, and with good customer service.

I stopped at the Sunset Shoe Repair to fix a zipper. It was impossibly stuck. Nothing I had on hand could do the trick.

Within minutes, the guys were able to repair the zipper and at no charge!

i'll definitely plan to come back when i need another shoe fixed.

I wore a hole that went completely through my right sole, and after just dealing with it for a while and doing my best to avoid puddles, I trusted these guys with my dear Frye oxfords. They did not disappoint in the slightest! Hooked me up with seemingly indestructible Italian leather soles and a lovely shine-up. Long live my Fryes!!

In this throwaway culture of ours, sometimes it's hard to believe that shoe repair shops still exist. It's kind of like those TV or vacuum repair shops.

But they do, and lucky for me because I was in need of some shoe repair action today. I brought in some shoes that needed a strap stitched back together. The guy looks at it, asks me if I want it done right now, I say sure, and boom, 5 minutes later, the shoe's back and ready to go. Now the question is how long it'll stay, but for $5 and 5 minutes, that's a win for me.

I also got some shoe goo for the bottom soles of some of my older shoes in which the glue on the soles were coming off. Shoe goo isn't pretty, but it does the job.

Will have to try this place for a shoe shine sometime. They seem to know what they're doing.

I brought my Ferragamo bag for repair. The leather around the handles were broken. The repair entailed having to remove the lining and repair from the inside. When I picked up my bag, I couldn't tell the difference from the original stitching and new. I was so happy!!! In addition, it only cost $35. Quality work, inexpensive, great customer service. I don't know the gentleman's name who works/owns the store but he was very nice. I will be back for sure!

Brought in dressy-ish 9 West boots I'd ruined by stomping thru snow for many weeks in Tahoe. Tops and toes were slashed and dull. The brown faux- wood cover on the unusually shaped, stacked-style bootheels were fraying and chunks of the faux wood were missing.
I don't know what i expected - a polish and clean up maybe, but it literally looks like a have a brand new pair of boots. The tops gleam. The heels were restored to a state in some aspects better than they were when new.
(NB: I know these aren't replacement heels due to the weird size and shape of the heel). For $30. Given that I've had these boots for 10 years, worn them everywhere because they go with everything, it's so edifying to know that I can wear my faves for another long period of time. Tony did this. I love knowing I can stroll over, wait a few days, then get new shoes or boots courtesy of Tony.

Well Done Tony! Yelp readers: Fearlessly bring your stuff here. You may balk at the (reasonable) prices but DON'T. It's worth it. And yes you will find street parking.

Love this place.... timely, perfect service, no skimping around the edges.... and open until 7 pm 6 days a week! Amazing!

  • *****

I just picked up my boots from Sunset Shoe Repair and they look amazing!!! Even my co-worker was impressed with them!

    Thanks Tony, you're the Best!!!

  • *****

These guys are awesome. I took in my *ahem* "well-loved" bcbg boots. I walk everywhere and this boots literally have saved my life and my feet ever since i've lived in san francisco. They did it in about an hour and it was the best quote i recieved.

go here. they are the real deal.

I usually bring in my pumps for new heels and they do a good job with them. Recently I brought in two of my favorite pairs of pumps to have re-soled and re-heeled. They both received new leather soles and rubber heels. They feel great and are more comfortable! The rubber heels also make them quieter to walk in. The only down-side is that now I don't have a reason to buy new shoes...

  • *****

Sunset Shoe repair made my boots awesome again.

Actually...they made them better than when I first bought them! The heels and soles were NASTY but they replaced the bottoms of my boots with fresh leather. They were also waterproofed, polished and shined all for a great price and in good time.

  • *****

I am rough on shoes and my favorite pairs often end up looking like they've been chewed on by a large dog. I brought in 3 pairs of shoes which I'd put through the ringer, hoping to eke a little more life out of them.

I was astounded at the magic these guys worked on my shoes. They fixed wear on the heels that I wasn't sure was possible to fix. All three pairs look great and are clearly ready for many more years of wear. The price was good too--under $100 for all 3.

  • *****

I only got my shoes polished/buffed ... but overall quick and easy experience. Questions were answered ... and options were provided on what might be more cost-effective. Not oversold on anything.

Got my shoes polished/buffed for $6 and in timely fashion.

    Thanks.

  • *****

They did a great job, with one hitch.

I brought in a leather boot my dog had chewed the zipper out of. He had also teared a bit of leather on the back top part of the boot cuff. I had tried to super glue a new zipper in, so this was a challenge.

When I went to pick the boot up, the zipper was perfect... but they had forgotten to sew up the back rip. However, when I mentioned this (and admittedly after having to assure him I had asked him to fix it) he offered to fix it while I wait. I went across the street to Crossroads and in ten or so minutes it was done.

It was reasonably priced around $35 (I had taken the boot to another cobbler and was quoted about the same).

I would take another pair of shoes here any day. And thanks to these hills and this rain it will probably be someday very soon.

  • *****

They do good work. I use my boots 5 days a week as a gardener and put on some serious wear. I had them resoled a couple months ago, but today I accidentally popped the heel loose by taking them off wrong. The guys at sunset fixed it and reinforced the other heel for free. Good stuff!

  • *****

I took a pair of Mark Nason boots, as well as a pair of my wife's Nine Wests (both of which were pretty beat...especially the Nasons) to get re-soled. These guys did a perfect repair job to both pairs of shoes, and gave great customer service as well. I am super picky about having anyone work on my boots, and they did not disappoint in any way. Pricing is more than fair, and turnaround time is reasonable. They did a terrific job. I will certainly be back!

  • *****

These guys are awesome! Shoe repair is definitely a skill almost lost with the consumerism of the modern world! Sure some people complain about the slightly high prices but considering the fact that he charged me $45 bucks for two new soles on shoes which otherwise would have been tossed is a great bargain! I mean the who can live off of less than that anyhow.

I told te fellas there that they do a great job and that I could never get my shoes to shine like how they do it. Then the owner said, come in one day and I'll show you how... Wow, that's like giving away product for free!

Support the local biz and save some cash by extending the life of your favorite shoes...

  • *****

Absolutely the best shoe repair!!! Very knowledgable and very courteous!!! I have had my shoes done at several other local shops but the work done here exceeded the others by far!!!

  • *****

I've always just thrown away my shoes after they became tattered and worn but I have become a frugal consumer; only really purchasing new when I absolutely have to. So I decided to take in 7pairs of shoes all from a worn out elastic ankle strap to serious ER work of new soles and fabric patches. From $8-$30 I was able to fix all of my shoes circa 2003. The men truly are gifted, making my shoes look new again. I would suggest leaving them until they are ready and not when you need them. Better to give them to room and have them done right.

  • *****

these guys are the greatest, i am totally loyal to them. i drive there from potrero hill.

parking is tricky, but worth it. highly recommended.

  • *****

Brought in my favorite boots that are well-worn & had a broken zipper. Previously, a different well-regarded repair shop tried to fix the zipper but broke it even more instead.

Brought boots in on a Friday, stating I needed the zipper fixed, heels replaced & a polish. Oh, and I needed it by Monday. "No problem" I was told.

Frankly, I was a bit skeptical as my experience with shoe repair is that it's never ready when they say it is. Yet, on Monday I picked up the boots & everything was done & done well without an exorbitant fee.

I definitely recommend taking your favorite pair of shoes here, no hesitation.

  • *****

My mother always brought shoes here, and over the years I have brought in a few pairs here and there... however I recently brought in seven, yes seven, pairs of boots and shoes for new heels and soles. Almost all of them were quality shoes and had a soft leather sole that I had hopelessly worn down to the point of near destruction. One pair was of lower quality but a favorite, with the plastic sole split in two.
While given the volume this all was not cheap, but it was a good honest price per pair. i just picked them up and everything looks beautiful - heels and soles replaced with thick European materials, gaps and gouges in the leather heels touched up and everything polished.
THANK YOU!!! We will be back again... but hopefully not soon! :)

  • *****

They can also fix old belts!

I have a lovely old white belt from my mother. The leather needed to be repaired, but I wanted to keep the style and the belt buckle. I had trouble finding a place that could replace the leather on a belt, until I found Sunset Shoe Repair.

Tony did an excellent job measuring the amount of leather, dying it white, and re-attaching my mother's belt buckle. I could not be more happy with their craftsmanship.

  • *****

Excellent shoe repair, if you like to keep your shoes for a while like I do. I've had boots repaired, zippers put on, new heels, new soles, and they always do quality work and at a fair price. A+

  • *****

Tony fixed my boots!!! Now it look like brand new!!!! He is a warm and nice owner!!! Highly recommend this!!!

First and foremost, excellent customer service and genuine, friendly employees. The gentlemen that work here are great guys.

Second, their work is well done and they will work with you until you are 100% satisfied.

Third, easy location right at the 7th ave N Judah stop.

I'm in my 60's and have had shoes repaired a LOT of times. These guys are the real deal. They do excellent work in a timely manner and at reasonable prices. See Tony; extremely knowledgeable about shoe manufacture as well as repair. The store keeps up a good stock of all kinds of laces, polishes, brushes and dyes. You won't find a better shoe repair business in town.

  • *****

Such a good shoe repair store. Gave my work shoes new life. Had a nasty oil stain on the top and now it's all gone because of them!! Can't even notice!

  • *****

I had a nice bag that had a zipper that broke. After checking around, I learned that sometimes shoe repair places can handle bag repairs, so I gave Sunset Shoe Repair a shot. $75 later, the zipper is better than new!

  • *****

I came in here for the first time today and immediately made friends with the owner there, Tony. Great guy. I needed a pair of boots re soled and was expecting this to take a few days at least, Tony told me they would have it done in 20 minutes and that I could wait if I wanted. It took them 10 minutes and they came out great. Reasonable price as well.

I live just around the corner and will be coming here for all my shoe fixing needs now!

I bought a pair of Michael Kors heels for my Christmas party season this year and wore them for one amazing night out. Hands down the most comfortable heel I've worn in a long time. So imagine my dismay in a twist of fate when I awoke the next morning to find my lovely canine companion who generally steers clear of such behavior had chewed the ankle strap clean off. After the tears had dried I set off finding a shoe repair shop and found Sunset Shoe Repair. Good reviews for the most part, but would they be able to salvage my shoes?

$30 later and you CAN NOT TELL that my dog made a midnight snack of my shoe. Looks BRAND NEW and I'm thrilled that my shoes have a long life ahead of them. Service was fast (helped that I wasn't in any rush and could give them a few days) and they were done when promised. The guys were really friendly throughout the whole process!!! I will definitely be returning.

  • *****

A great bunch of honest, straight-talking folks. I have had two minor repairs and one major one done here. They are always really helpful and good at explaining what needs to or ought to be done to repair a shoe. The turnaround in service on excellent work is a matter of days, which is exceptional. I highly recommend them.

  • *****

If you're thinking about different shoe places, stop and just go to this one. The zipper on my leather jacket broke and I was worried I wasn't going to be able to get it fixed before I left. Tony is the man. I brought it in and within five minutes I had a functioning zipper free of charge AND I understood the problem. He is kind, friendly, fast, and super reasonable. He deserves your business.

Great customer service and very centrally located. I love the neighborhood and the shop owner does great work. He fixed my dressy heals and stretched them. He even offered more stretching for free if needed. Since I walk hard I'm sure to be back here again.

  • *****

I took a pair of boots to get the heels replaced for the first time. I have never had my shoes repaired before and didn't really know what to expect. I was quoted $65 to replace both heels on my boots. I was surprised at this price, but did some research and this seems to be about right. The owners were very friendly and trustworthy. My shoes were ready in a couple of days, and I am happy with how they turned out.

  • *****

The guys at sunset did a great job repairing the worn out heels on my girlfriends boots. New heel looks awesome, matches nicely, and they polished the boots up after they were done with the job.

Between this repair and an earlier job reattaching the sole I can highly recommend these guys.

Only area for improvement is if the boots were complete within the timeframe given. When I arrived to pick them up they still needed a polish and some touch up on the heel (a 10 min job) I opted to swing by the next day since I live up the street and didn't feel like hanging around.

Great spot, great work, and great service

  • *****

Great place to get your shoes freshened up! Had a pair of heels in bad need of some TLC . Brought them in the day before I had an interview and they made them look brand new within thirty minutes. The staff was great, would highly recommend :)

  • *****

They did great work fixing my bag. I will definitely go back!

Quick turnaround too and a fair rate

  • *****

I had my favorite pair of boots repaired here about a year ago. They look great, they're still holding up very well, and the guys working there were very friendly!

However, there's one thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars: ever since I got my boots back, there has been what feels like little pebbles inside them often. Like I have to dump them out sometimes. It's gotten better recently, but it was really bad at first for a while. My boots had never done that before until they were repaired here. I wish I could give 4.5 stars since I'm sure this was a one time thing and doesn't normally happen.

Overall I would come back here a second time if I need to, but if my boots are filled with constant pebbles again then my visits will probably end there unfortunately.

I don't know what a standard shoe repair fee is since this was my first time ever doing it, but as far as I'm concerned it was reasonably priced.

  • *****

Came here to have them fix the strap of a pair of wedges. He was kind and quick. Just dropped off the shoe and told him what I wanted. It was $6-pre pay. Was done in a couple days and looks great. Thanks!

  • *****

Wow I love it. Seriously! They fixed my favorite leather boots as nobody ever did before I am sure it is going to last very long! I am so happy.

Ever since The Wooden Heel closed in Noe Valley I have been searching for a good cobbler -- it has been a long time. I think I found it in Sunset Shoe Repair. I had the handle on my L.A.M.B. purse repaired, a pair of shoes stretched, a pair of boots re-soled and re-heeled, and also the strap on another purse fixed. All outstanding and very professionally repaired. The pricing is fair, they have rent to pay, staff to employ with benefits, etc., and try to make a living, so seemed right by San Francisco prices to me.

Very pleased and would recommend for craftsmanship and professional work. They get it and understand shoes unlike other places where I have been that did not figure out the heel/sole balance ratio -- there is a precision here that is exact and can throw the entire shoe out of whack if it is off the mark. This I know because I have had some cobblers ruin shoes by simple symmetry. It is a craft and Sunset Shoe Repair are masters.

  • *****

I've now had two pairs of boots repaired here, and I think they do a great (and reasonably priced) job at it!

They charge $20 (I think...I may be misremembering but it's close to that anyway) for a sole replacement and leather polish. I had two pairs of boots that I wore down the very short heel on. On one pair they built the heel back up a bit and put a new traction pad on the bottom. On the other, my previous cowboy boots, they shaved the heel down to level it out and put the pad on the bottom. Both pairs are doing great now!

Also, the guy who works here is very nice :)

As a kid Rainbow Brite was my favorite cartoon character.

My coloring books were always visions of messy rainbow creations.

My first bikini was a cheap rainbow string bikini from Delia's.

And I can still remember my skeptical response when an ex boyfriend asked if I'd left a black scarf at a party that his roommates had thrown.

I love color. I always have. I gravitate towards it. It inspires me.

Which is why - it's been so strange as of late to find myself moving towards muted greys and black. Black shirts, black skirts, black dresses, black liner, and yes black shoes.

I own very little black - so I often find myself searching deep within my messy closet of color for it. My main pair of black shoes have been worn so often in this new pursuit of black ware - that I recently found myself turning down opportunities to walk during the week - on days that I would wear them to work. I was destined for some much needed shoe repair.

    And so...

My mom when she was in town this past week took the motherly initiative to take my shoes to get fixed at Sunset Shoe Repair. I'd been to Sunset Shoe Repair in the past- and I had been satisfied - but I had not necessarily been wowed by my experience.

This time was different. My mom took my worn pair of black fringe booties here that afternoon and when I came home that evening - she presented them proudly to me. The heel turned out great and I was even more impressed that Sunset Shoe Repair had managed to turn around the repair in such a short time.

My brown boots and colorful clothes are cringing at the return of my newly mended shoes - but it's back to black for me again.

    Trust.

Great Inner Sunset location near 9th Avenue. Be certain to check with them about their lunch time closing times and days closed before heading over to drop off or pick up. Reasonable prices, too.

I am very happy that my friend had recommended me to pay a visit to this store and get one of my older shoes repaired. The worker there helped bring my shoe back to life after wearing them for couple years. I dropped off my shoe there and it was already fixed in a couple hours. The prices is pretty good to say the least. They specialize on shoes so they know what they are doing.
